The Great Chuetsu Earthquake, which hit the Chuetsu region including Nagaoka City in October 2004, caused tremendous damage and affected many people. The earthquake also brought enormous losses not only to the Chuetsu region but also extensively to Niigata Prefecture, especially in the areas of various industries including tourism.
The launching of Phoenix-shaped fireworks was begun in order to encourage the many disaster-stricken people in the Chuetsu region (as well as in Niigata Prefecture) who are working hard despite the hardships resulting from the strong earthquake. Wishing for a quick recovery from the damage, we started launching Phoenix-shaped fireworks, hoping for them to become the most spectacular and best fireworks in the world.
Also with a prayer for a safe recovery of a numerous number of disaster-stricken people across the world and in appreciation of all kinds of support we have received, the Niigata Prefecture Great Chuetsu Earthquake Phoenix-Shaped Fireworks with Prayers for a Complete Recovery are launched during the annual Nagaoka Festival that originated in commemoration of our city’s reconstruction from war devastation.
